Facility Inspections

Grade: D

Unfortunately, we didn't have any good things to say about this nursing home's overall grade or its category grades. Its best area is the area of inspections. However, with a D in this area, it still performed badly. Our inspection ratings factor in many items found on the nursing home's inspection reports. When you see too many deficiencies on the inspection reports, this is typically a bad sign. Severe deficiencies indicate a risk to patient safety. This nursing home was assessed 7 deficiencies by CMS. The only positive thing we can say is that none of its deficiencies were in the categories that suggest that they posed a risk to resident health or safety. Lastly, we also would like to point out that this nursing home was assessed significant government fines in recent years of over $50,000. This often indicates that government inspectors became frustrated after several years of bad inspections.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

We gave this facility a grade of just D for our short-term care grade and that actually turned out to be its next highest score. Short-term care grades are typically employed to assess a nursing home's rehabilitation services. In order to have quality rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must have higher levels of highly skilled nursing. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other types of therapists. Considering its score in this category, we weren't stunned to discover that this nursing home was well below average in terms of the quantity of registered nurse and physical therapy hours provided to its patients based on the figures we assessed. The final metric we considered in this area is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that just 4.8 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these subpar statistics sunk this facility's short-term care score.

Nurse Quality

Grade: F

Unfortunately, we gave this facility an F for its nursing grade. In determining our nursing grades, we analyze both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the levels of licensure of those nurses. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in calculating our nursing ratings. This place performed well in terms of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The next area we scored was long-term care, in which this nursing home received a poor score here as well. We gave it an F for this category, which is obviously somewhat alarming. In a long-term care environment, the facility's primary objective is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. On top of assessing the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. Fortunately, this nursing home provided the vaccine to 99.51219 percent of its residents, which is a very respectable datapoint. To our surprise, this nursing home also keeps its patients out of the hospital. It had just 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Unfortunately, a few of its other scores in the category were not as favorable as these.
