Facility Inspections
On top of being a strong nursing home overall, it also earned A+ government inspections recently. Its inspections were virtually perfect. Perhaps the most important factor we consider in computing our inspection scores is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Nursing homes with better grades in this category typically avoided the most severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. Although this nursing home had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were severe based on CMS' scale. A few minor dings aren't something to panic about.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home also was awarded a fine long-term care grade. In fact, this turned out to be this facility's second strongest category grade. In that area, we gave this facility a score of A-. When facilities receive a score in this range in long-term care it generally means it has plenty of staff and is a quality place to reside on a permanent basis. After considering the volume of care provided by nurses, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination records. This facility vaccinated 99.164345 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is what we like to see. Pneumonia sadly can be a deadly condition for nursing home residents so we prefer when a facility does not take any chances. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.03 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Short-term Care Quality
Turning the page to our third category, we awarded this facility a score of A- for our short-term care rating. This is a first-rate rating. In crafting our short-term care grades, we analyze the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The purpose is to formulate a tool for sizing up the rehabilitation services of various facilities. It doesn't look like this facility submitted information about its staffing of registered nurses or physical therapists. The final item we assessed in this category is the number of residents who returned home from the facility. We found that 5.7 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.
Nurse Quality
The final area we scored was nursing. We awarded this facility an acceptable grade in this area, with a grade of C. Even though this isn't as high as some of its other grades, it is still nothing to be ashamed of. Our nursing score weighs several factors, however, the primary one is the quantity of nurse hours per patient per week. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in some quality-focused metrics. We especially look at the percentage of patients who sustained pressure ulcers and major falls. These data points are decent measures of the quality of nursing care, since superior care tends to reduce these issues.
