Facility Inspections
We want to draw your attention to the fact that this facility really outperformed its overall grade in the category of inspections. In fact, it received an excellent inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our highest grades in that category with an A-. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in computing these inspection ratings. One key factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more important than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies end up being quite insignificant. Although this place had some deficiencies on its report, none of them were serious based on CMS' scale. The fact that the deficiencies were relatively minor made us feel better about this inspection report.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility also received an impressive long-term care grade. In fact, we awarded them a B in that category, which happens to be one of our more favorable scores. When facilities receive this kind of grade in this category it is typically a good sign for resident care and suggests that the nursing home is well-staffed with nurses aids. In addition to considering the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents. Vaccines are vital to keeping residents healthy. Finally, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Nurse Quality
This nursing home's nursing grade appears to be one of its better features. The facility received a grade of B- in this category. In computing a facility's nursing score, we look at the amount of time nurses are seeing patients and the skill levels of those nurses. This facility provides only 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident daily. This is a somewhat discouraging figure as it is well below average. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this facility fared better in some of the quality-based metrics we assessed. It scored well when it comes to minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. Many consider these areas to be measures of the quality of nursing care. In some cases, the quality of nursing care is just as important as the number of hours of care provided.
Short-term Care Quality
The last area we analyzed is short-term care. This nursing home was given a grade of C in this area. In calculating our short-term care grades, we assess a facility's levels of skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists speech therapists and other types of therapists. This rating is typically a fair measure of the facility's ability to rehabilitate patients. Unfortunately, we were not able to find information on registered nurse or physical therapy staffing for this nursing home. The final item we assessed in this category is the percentage of patients who eventually returned home from the nursing home. We found that just 0 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.
