Even though we graded this facility very poorly overall, it received a somewhat respectable nursing grade this year. We gave it a grade of B- in that category. We scrutinized the qualifications of nurses at the facility, as well as the quantity of time those nurses worked with residents, in determining our rating in this area. This nursing home averages 3.7 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also assessed several nursing quality-based metrics and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its patients sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed very well in this statistic.

We were also surprised to learn that this facility received a somewhat respectable short-term care rating this year. We gave it a grade of B- in this area. Short-term care grades are meaningful for individuals in need of rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally utilizes additional skilled nursing. This includes a wide scope of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. We were pleased to find that this nursing home employs both registered nurses and physical therapists. The same can't be said for all nursing homes. The last item we assessed in this category is the percentage of residents that ultimately returned home from the nursing home. We found that just 34.3 percent of this facility's residents returned home. This figure was below average.

Sadly, this facility received a grade of just D in our inspection category. This is well below average grade. Our inspection scores account for several factors included in a facility's inspection reports. One key criteria we weigh heavily is the number and severity of deficiencies. This particular nursing home had 5 deficiencies on its inspection report. The only positive thing we found is that none of its deficiencies were in the categories that indicate that they created a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility was cited by CMS for possible abuse or neglect. We would not recommend this facility under any circumstance.

Moving on to the next category, we awarded this nursing home a grade of D in long-term care. This was the facility's worst category score. In a long-term care environment, the facility's primary objective is to maintain patients' quality of life and keep them safe. After considering the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination statistics. We were optimistic to discover that this nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients against pneumonia. Surprisingly, this facility was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had just 0.51 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Sadly, some of its other scores in this category weren't as favorable as these.
