The main reason this facility received a decent overall score is its excellent inspections in recent years. We gave it one of our better grades in that category, with an A. This is a notably better grade than the facility's overall grade, which was decent but certainly not elite. Our inspection grades account for a host of factors found on a nursing home's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we consider is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with better grades in this category tend to have few severe deficiencies. While this place had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G through L. This tells you the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A couple minor deficiencies should not lead you to cross a nursing home off your list.

This facility also received a favorable score in our long-term care category. We gave this facility an above average grade of B+ in that category. Nursing homes that receive this type of score in long-term care tend to provide consistent around the clock care to make sure patients are well cared for. On top of looking at the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is more than most nursing homes. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

The next most favorable area we gave this facility in any category came in the area of short-term care, where we awarded it a C. Our short-term care grades are probably most meaningful for folks requiring rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation generally requires higher levels of highly-skilled nursing. This includes not merely nursing services, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other types of therapy. Unfortunately, we found that this place provided fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other nursing homes. The final statistic we looked at in this category is the number of patients who were able to return home from the nursing home. We found that just 5.1 percent of this facility's residents returned home. Unfortunately, this was below the national average.

This facility's least impressive category is nursing, which is the last category we scored. Unfortunately, we gave it an abysmal F for this area. Even with multiple decent scores in other categories, this score is nevertheless concerning so we would like to to draw your attention to it. There are many factors within this area. Most of the data points relate to levels of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. To pair with its subpar totals in the area of nursing hours per patient, this facility also did not fare as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in determining our nursing grades. We looked at the percent of residents sustaining major falls and pressure ulcers. This place had more pressure ulcers and falls than the average nursing home.
