Nurse Quality
We also want to note that this nursing home excelled in our nursing grade. We awarded them an A+ in this category. Our nursing score considers several factors. The most heavily weighted variable is the number of hours nurses spend with patients. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality-based metrics and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any place the nation in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be prevented by providing better nursing care, such as by employing a policy of moving a resident more often.
Facility Inspections
This nursing home also earned an A+ inspection grade, making it one of the few places to receive multiple A+'s in our categories. Inspection ratings are tied to pieces of information located in the a nursing home's government inspections. Nursing homes that receive favorable grades in this category have few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these places generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. This nursing home was assessed 7 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe. This indicates that the government inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies to be an imminent risk to resident safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

We also gave this facility a grade of of A+ for its long-term care grade. Long-term care scores of this caliber generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. On top of considering the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 88.30189 percent of its patients. This is a few points lower than we anticipated. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
Short-term Care Quality
The final area we looked at is short-term care, where this nursing home was given a grade of C. This ended up being this nursing home's least impressive area. This is still not a major area of concern. In computing our short-term care grades, we look at the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. Our goal is to create a tool for sizing up the rehabilitation services of nursing homes. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these skilled professionals. However, according to the data this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The final statistic we considered in this area is the number of residents that ultimately were able to return home from the facility. We found that just 3 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home. This figure was below average.
