Although we gave this place a terrible overall score, we awarded it a B+ for our inspections rating. This is the result of the facility receiving a decent government inspection report this year. Inspection grades weigh a host of factors included in a facility's inspection report. One key criteria we consider is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. You should avoid places with a bunch of deficiencies flagged. While this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were serious based on CMS' scale. A couple minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.

We were also surprised to discover that this nursing home received a somewhat respectable short-term care grade this year. We awarded it a B- in that category. In the category of short-term care, we endeavor to evaluate measures of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. We look at the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and various therapists. This nursing home employs both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities employ these skilled professionals. Lastly, we considered the number of patients who ultimately were able to return home from this facility. This place also fared well in this area with 63.1 percent of its patients returning home. Most facilities are below 50 percent in this statistic.

We also wanted to point out that this nursing home received an F for its nursing grade. Our nursing rating analyzes quite a few subcategories, however, the most important one is the level of nurse hours spent with patients. This facility averaged just 3.1 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This number is far below the national average. On top of receiving below average marks for total nursing hours, this place was a bit less impressive in some of the quality-based measures we looked at in determining our nursing ratings. We looked at the percent of residents suffering pressure ulcers and found that this place was at approximately 150 percent of the national average in this metric.

Long-term Care Quality

Historical

The last category we analyzed was long-term care. This nursing home was given a rock bottom grade of F in that area. For long-term care residents, the primary objective is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. In addition to considering the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. Fortunately, this nursing home gave the vaccine to 97.560974 percent of its residents, which is a very respectable figure. To our surprise, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home has fewer hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes. Unfortunately, a few of its other scores in the category were not as favorable as these.
