Registered Staff Hours
While we graded this facility incredibly poorly overall, it received a fairly respectable inspection report this year. As a result, it received a decent grade in that category with a score of C. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating our inspection ratings. One of those factors is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some of these end up being relatively insignificant. This place was assessed 3 deficiencies on its government inspection report, but we were relieved to find that none were in any of the categories labeled G through L. This indicates inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies to be an imminent risk to resident health or safety. Lastly, this nursing home was cited by CMS for possible abuse or neglect. This is generally a really bad sign. We would never recommend this facility.
Long-term Care Quality
Among this nursing home's several abysmal scores was its F in the category of long-term care. For residents in need of a permanent place to live rather than rehabilitation, long-term care is an important category. One of the datapoints we considered on top of nursing hours is vaccinations. Thankfully, this facility provided the pneumonia vaccine to 98.34254 percent of its patients. To our surprise, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 1.4 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility had less hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes. Unfortunately, a few of its other scores in the category weren't as favorable as these.

In computing these short-term care scores, we analyze the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The objective is to devise a barometer for sizing up the rehabilitation services of various nursing homes. Considering its grade in this area, we weren't stunned to learn that this place was well below average in terms of the quantity of registered nurse and physical therapy hours offered to its residents based on the metrics we looked at. Frankly, this was what we expected here. Lastly, we considered the percentage of residents who ultimately returned home from this facility. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 22.6 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit off the national average.
The next area we assessed is nursing, where this nursing home received a very poor grade here as well. It received an F for this area, which is obviously very concerning. Our nursing rating assesses several factors, most of which are based on nursing hours. With just 2.1 hours of nursing care per patient daily, this place's nurse staffing levels were well below average. To pair with its subpar totals in the area of nursing hours per resident, this place also didn't perform as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in determining our nursing ratings. We looked at the percentage of patients experiencing major falls and pressure ulcers. This place had more falls and pressure ulcers than the average facility. This could be a bad sign when you consider that many falls and bed sores are preventable with better nursing care. Unfortunately, these scores pulled down this nursing home's nursing grade significantly.
