Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

One of the reasons this place turned out to be a great nursing home is that it earned an A+ inspection grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this critical area. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in computing our inspection ratings. One of those factors is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies are relatively insignificant. This nursing home was hit with 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe. This means that CMS didn't deem any of these deficiencies to pose an immediate threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

One of the other reasons we graded this facility so highly is that it was given a very impressive short-term care grade. Indeed, short-term care is its second most favorable category score. In that category, we gave this nursing home a score of A-. Our short-term care grades are crucial for patients requiring rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually mandates more skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing means a wide spectrum of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other types of therapy. Fortunately, this nursing home offers both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities offer both. The final statistic we looked at in this category is the number of residents who returned home from the facility. This proved to be more of a strength for this nursing home. It fared as well as just about any nursing home in Missouri in this area with 60.8 percent of its residents returning home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

This facility fared well in the area of long-term care as well. Consequently, we gave it a score of A- for that category, which happens to be one of our better scores. Nursing homes that receive this kind of score in this category tend to provide consistent around the clock care to ensure residents are well cared for. On top of considering the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 97.1223 percent of its residents. Vaccines are vital to keeping patients healthy. This nursing home also keeps its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 1.59 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

The next category we rated was nursing, in which this nursing home was given a C. This actually proved to be this facility's weakest area. This is still not the end of the world. There are many factors within this area. Many of the data points relate to levels of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides only 2.9 hours of nursing care per patient each day. This is a somewhat alarming figure as it is well below the national average. Lastly, our nursing scores also factor in some quality-focused measures. We like to look at the percent of patients who suffered pressure ulcers and major falls. Sometimes these data points are decent measures of the quality of nursing care, since better care can reduce these problems.
