Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

To go along with its favorable overall grade, we gave this place an A+ for our inspections rating. Inspection scores weigh several factors, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these items by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

Among the reasons we rated this facility so favorably is that it was given a strong long-term care score. Indeed, long-term care ended up being its second most favorable category score. In that category, we gave this nursing home a grade of A-. Facilities that do well in long-term care tend to be well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to patients. On top of looking at the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is significantly higher than the average nursing home. Lastly, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

This facility is also above average in the category of short-term care, where it was awarded a score of B. It outpaced most facilities in this area. Our short-term care ratings are probably most important for patients needing a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically mandates more skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing means not just nursing services, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. Unfortunately, we weren't able to track down information about this nursing home's registered nurse or physical therapy staffing. Lastly, we looked at the number of patients that eventually returned home from this nursing home. We found that 5.5 percent of this facility's patients returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

The final area we assessed is nursing. In this area, we gave this nursing home a decent grade of B-. This actually turned out to be this nursing home's least impressive area. There are quite a few data points within this area. Most of the subcategories reflect levels of nurse staffing. This nursing home averages just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low figure. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this facility actually fared better in some of the quality-based metrics we assessed. In fact, it scored well when it comes to avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. Many consider these areas to be reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care. In some cases, the quality of nursing care is as important as the quantity of hours of care provided.
