Short-term Care Quality
To go along with its strong overall score, we gave this nursing home an elite grade of A+ for its short-term care grade. Our short-term care grade is commonly employed to grade a facility's rehabilitation services. In order to offer highly rated rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must have higher levels of skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other highly trained professionals. One of this nursing home's strength is that it offers more hours of physical therapy per week to its residents. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of residents that eventually returned home from this facility. In addition to excelling in the area of physical therapy, we found that it performed as well as just about any nursing home in this area with 72 percent of its residents returning home. Most facilities are below 50 percent in this metric.
Long-term Care Quality
We also wanted to alert you to the fact that this nursing home received a first-rate score of A in our long-term care category. If you are looking for anything other than rehabilitation, you should take a close look at long-term care ratings. After assessing the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we next considered the facility's vaccination records. This nursing home vaccinated 93.51852 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is somewhat below what we were hoping for but still a decent percentage. This nursing home was also able to keep its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had just 1.35 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days.
Nurse Quality
To complement its strong performance in other areas, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A- for our inspections rating. In calculating a facility's nursing score, we assess the number of hours nurses commit to residents and the levels of training of the nurses. This place offers a very impressive 5.8 hours of nursing care per resident each day. This is among the more impressive figures in the state. Lastly, this facility also performed well in several of the quality measures we assessed. For example, in terms of the number of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, this place performed better than the national average. This is often a good indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Pressure ulcers can generally be prevented with better nursing care and having a policy of regularly turning residents to avoid bed sores.
Facility Inspections
Another impressive feature for this nursing home is its inspection grade. In that area, we awarded this facility a score of A-, completing its straight A performance. Our inspection scores are tied to items located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes that excel in this area have few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these facilities generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. This particular nursing home received 3 deficiencies on its inspection report. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
