Facility Inspections
While we were not high on this nursing home overall, we awarded it a grade of A+ for our inspections rating. This score is significantly more impressive than the nursing home's overall score. Inspection scores are tied to several datapoints located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are a key thing to look for on these reports. You should especially avoid nursing homes with severe deficiencies linked to endangerment of patients. While this facility had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you the inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A couple minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
Sadly, this nursing home's second best category is long-term care. Nevertheless, with a D in this category, it still fared somewhat poorly. Facilities that don't score well in this category often don't provide as much nursing care and also may be lagging in a few of the areas of routine healthcare services we assessed. One of the datapoints we considered after nurse's aid hours is vaccines. Frankly, we were a bit concerned this facility provided the pneumonia vaccine to a relatively low 87.45763 percent of its patients. Unfortunately, this place's hospitalization rate was also a cause for concern. Here we found that this place had 2.6 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an alarming rate.
Short-term Care Quality
Our next area we graded is short-term care, where this facility was given an F. In determining our short-term care ratings, we assess the nursing home's levels of skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other highly trained professionals. This rating is frequently a fair measure of the nursing home's rehabilitation. In this place's case, we found that it offered fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than a typical facility. The final measure we assessed in this category is the percentage of residents that were able to return home from the facility. This facility struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 33.4 percent of its residents returning home.
Nurse Quality
The final category we rated is nursing. We gave it a lowly F for this category, which is a bottom of the barrel score. We looked at the skill-level of nurses at the facility, in addition to the quantity of time the nurses worked with residents, in calculating our rating in this area. This place offered only 3 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This is well below average. To go along with its low totals in the area of nursing hours per patient, this facility also didn't fare as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in determining our nursing ratings. We looked at the percent of patients experiencing major falls and pressure ulcers. This facility had more pressure ulcers and falls than the average facility. This may be a bad sign when you consider that many bed sores and falls are preventable with better nursing care. These scores pulled down this nursing home's nursing rating quite a bit.
