Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

This facility really excelled in the area of short-term care, where it earned a grade of A-. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. If it wasn't for this grade, this facility's overall grade would have been much worse. In the area of short-term care, we attempt to evaluate indicators of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. We analyze a nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses and physical therapists. Unfortunately, it does not look like this facility submitted information on registered nurse or physical therapist staffing. Lastly, we looked at the number of patients who who were able to eventually return home from this nursing home. We found that 5.8 percent of this nursing home's residents were able to return home.

One of the other reasons we graded this nursing home so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing score. Nursing turned out to be its second best category grade. In that category, we awarded this nursing home an B-. In computing our nursing scores, we factor in both nursing hours and the levels of licensure of the nurses. This particular facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident each day. This figure is far below the national average. Finally, although this nursing home got docked a bit for nursing hours, it actually excelled in a few of our quality-based measures. With fewer than five percent of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, it fared very well in this subcategory.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B-minus

This facility received a solid inspection report this year as well, with few dings from the applicable government inspectors. As a result, it received one of our better grades in that category with a score of B-. Inspection grades are based on several datapoints located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are an important item to look for on these inspections. Severe deficiencies indicate a risk to patient safety. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Based on this, we still had a generally positive view of this facility's recent inspections.

This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients. This place keeps its patients out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
