Facility Inspections
One of the reasons this place is a strong nursing home is that it received a very impressive inspection rating. In fact, inspections is its best category grade. In that area, we gave it an A. Inspection grades are based on items located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that receive favorable grades in this category tend to have very few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these places generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. This nursing home was hit with 7 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe. This means that the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies to be an imminent threat to resident health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
Adding to this facility's list of strengths, it also was awarded a fine long-term care grade. We gave them a strong strong of A in this area. Nursing homes that receive this kind of grade in this category typically provide consistent 24/7 care to make sure residents are well cared for. On top of considering the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents. Vaccines are critical to keeping patients healthy. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Nurse Quality
Turning to the area of nursing care, this was not one of this facility's strong suits. We awarded it a grade of D in this category. Clearly, this facility performed much better in the categories discussed above. In determining a nursing home's nursing grade, we assess the amount of time nurses commit to residents and the level of skill of the nurses. This place provided only 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident daily. This is not a very impressive figure. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing ratings. This nursing home performed well in the area of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care.
Short-term Care Quality
The next area we analyzed is short-term care, which is this facility's worst area. We awarded this nursing home a grade of D in that area. Sadly, this grade pulled down the facility's overall grade to a certain degree. With our short-term care assessment, we endeavor to craft a valuable barometer for rehabilitation services. In doing so, we analyze a facility's level of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as occupational therapy. Unfortunately, we found that this nursing home provided fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other facilities. Finally, we considered the percentage of residents that were able to return home from this nursing home. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 4.6 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was well off the national average.
