Facility Inspections
In addition to being a quality nursing home overall, this place especially excelled in the area of inspections, where it received an A. Few nursing homes performed better in this category. Arguably the most important factor we consider in determining our inspection grades is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a facility's inspection reports. Nursing homes with better grades in this area most likely avoided the more severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Even some of the best nursing homes receive an occasional ding on their inspection report.
Nurse Quality
Adding to its profile, this facility also earned a grade of B+ for its nursing rating. This is a well above average score in this category. We looked at the levels of nurses working for the nursing home, as well as the quantity of hours the nurses were with residents, in computing our rating in this area. This nursing home averages 3.7 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This facility performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can often be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.
Short-term Care Quality
This facility was awarded a strong short-term care score as well. We awarded it one of our better scores in that category with a score of B+. Short-term care scores are based on the nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This includes a vast spectrum of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, not to mention other types of therapy. This nursing home boosted its score in this category by offering more than 50% more physical therapy hours to its residents than the average facility. Lastly, we looked at the number of residents who were able to return home from this nursing home. We found that it outperformed the majority of nursing homes with 51.4 percent of its residents returning home. This is a higher rate than most nursing homes.
Long-term Care Quality
The final category we rated is long-term care, where this nursing home was given a B. This nursing home didn't end up having any weak grades. When nursing homes receive a score in this range in long-term care it generally means it has plenty of staff and is a quality place to live on a permanent basis. After looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination record. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia. Vaccines are vital to keeping residents out of the hospital. The last statistic we assessed was its hospitalization rate. We found that this place had 1.75 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is close to average in this area.
