We also found that this nursing home excelled at short-term care. We awarded them an A+ in this area. In calculating these short-term care scores, we quantify the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The objective is to formulate a scale for comparing the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. This place is the gold standard in terms of skilled nursing staffing. The facility provided roughly one and a half times as many physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than a typical facility. The final item we assessed in this category is the percentage of residents who returned home from the nursing home. We found that it performed as well as just about any nursing home in Kentucky in this area with 76.5 percent of its residents returning home. At most facilities, fewer than half of their short-stay residents are able to return home.
This nursing home also received an A+ inspection score, making it one of the rare facilities to receive multiple A+'s in our categories. This is based on the place's government inspections. Our inspection grades are based on pieces of information found on the a nursing home's inspections. Facilities that receive favorable grades in this category tend to have very few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these places should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. On top of providing high levels of nursing care, this facility also excelled in the quality measures we assessed. It performed as well as any nursing home in the country in the area of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers.

The fourth area we rated is long-term care. This remarkable facility also performed extremely well in this category, where we gave it an A+. This wrapped up a flawless report card of all A+'s. For long-term care residents, the primary objective is to maintain residents' quality of life and keep them safe. On top of assessing the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. We were not able to locate information about this nursing home's vaccination rates. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
