Facility Inspections
While we graded this facility incredibly poorly overall, it received a fairly respectable inspection report this year. As a result, it received a decent grade in that category with a score of B-. Inspection ratings weigh a host of factors included in a nursing home's inspection reports. One key criteria we weigh heavily is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. This particular nursing home received 7 deficiencies on its inspection report. Another red flag is that CMS cited this nursing home for possible abuse or neglect. Hopefully, its performance improves in the future, but until then we simply can't recommend this facility.
Short-term Care Quality
Incredibly, we gave this facility a B- for its short-term care grade, which is not too bad of a score. Short-term care grades are often used to judge a facility's performance with rehabilitation. In order to provide quality rehabilitation services, facilities generally need to have better levels of highly skilled nursing. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other licensed professionals. In this nursing home's case, we were surprised to learn that it actually provides less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than the typical facility. The final item we considered in this category is the number of patients who ultimately were able to return home from the nursing home. We found that just 5.5 percent of this facility's residents returned home. This figure was below the national average.

Long-term Care Quality
As it turns out, this facility only received a D for its long-term care rating, which is not one of our better scores. For prospective residents seeking a permanent place to live as opposed to rehabilitation, long-term care is an important category. On top of looking at the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 97.57576 percent of its residents. To our surprise, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility had fewer hospitalizations than most nursing homes. Sadly, a few of its other scores in this category weren't as favorable as these.
Nurse Quality
The last area we rated is nursing. Unfortunately, we gave it an F for this category, which is an abysmal grade. Our nursing grade analyzes the facility's nurse staffing levels. We consider both the levels of licensure of those nurses and the number of hours spent with patients. With just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis, this place's nurse staffing levels were well below the national average. To go along with its low totals in the area of nursing hours per resident, this place also didn't perform as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in computing our nursing grades. We looked at the percent of patients sustaining major falls and pressure ulcers. This place had more pressure ulcers and falls than the average nursing home. This could be a bad sign when you consider that many bed sores and falls are preventable with better nursing care. These metrics hurt this nursing home's nursing rating significantly.
