Long-term Care Quality
Although we weren't high on this facility overall, we awarded it an A- for our long-term care rating. This score is much more impressive than this nursing home's overall score, which would have been even worse without this grade. Facilities that do well in long-term care typically provide residents with more supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. In addition to considering the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is very impressive. Pneumonia sadly is often a deadly health condition for nursing home patients so we strongly prefer when a nursing home doesn't take any chances. Finally, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
Facility Inspections
We also awarded this nursing home a grade of B- for our inspections rating. This score is a more impressive than the facility's overall grade. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in computing our inspection ratings. One critical factor is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of deficiencies is usually more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these can be quite insignificant. This particular nursing home received 3 deficiencies on its inspection report. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is always a good sign.

Short-term Care Quality
The next area we looked at was short-term care, in which this facility was given an F. In the category of short-term care, we endeavor to qualify indicators of a facility's rehabilitation services. We look at the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as the ones performed by registered nurses and physical therapists. Based on its weak grade in this category, we were not surprised to learn this facility provided substantially fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than most nursing homes. The last metric we assessed in this area is the percentage of patients who returned home from the nursing home. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 4 percent of its patients returning home. This was well below average.
Nurse Quality
Turning to our fourth category, this facility didn't fare very well here either. Due to a bottom of the barrel grade of F in nursing, this is about as terrible as it gets. We looked at the skill-level of nurses employed by the nursing home, as well as the quantity of time those nurses were with patients, in determining our grade in this area. This particular nursing home provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This number is well below the national average. To go along with its subpar totals in the area of nursing hours per patient, this facility also didn't fare as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in calculating our nursing ratings. We looked at the percentage of residents experiencing pressure ulcers and major falls. This place had more pressure ulcers and falls than the average nursing home. This may be a bad sign when you consider that many bed sores and falls are preventable with better nursing care. These metrics hurt this nursing home's nursing grade quite a bit.
