Short-term Care Quality
This facility really excelled in the category of short-term care, where it received an A-. Few facilities performed better in this category. If it was not for this area, this nursing home's overall grade would have been much lower. Our short-term care grades are thought to be more critical for people needing a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically mandates more skilled nursing. This includes not only nursing, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not every facility employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the data this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last statistic we looked at in this area is the number of residents who eventually returned home from the facility. We found that 5.8 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.
We also awarded this facility a favorable grade in nursing. This facility earned a grade of B+ in this category, which is one of our better grades. Our nursing score is largely based on the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This nursing home performed very well in the area of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

This facility received a solid inspection report this year as well, with few dings from the applicable government inspectors. As a result, it received one of our better grades in that category with a score of B-. Our inspection grades weigh a host of factors found on a facility's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we consider is the number and severity of deficiencies. Fortunately, although this nursing home had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means that the government inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A couple minor dings aren't the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
The final category we rated is long-term care. We awarded this facility a grade of C in that category. In calculating our long-term care ratings, we analyze the personal care offered to the nursing home's residents. After looking at the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination statistics. We were optimistic to find that this nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia. Lastly, this nursing home was also able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
