Facility Inspections
To go along with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for our inspections rating. Our inspection scores weigh several factors found on a facility's inspection reports. One key criteria we rely on is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Places with better scores in this area usually have very few severe deficiencies. While this facility had a few deficiencies on its report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
Contributing to its elite resume, this nursing home also excelled in our long-term care area. In fact, it received a score of A- in that area. When nursing homes receive this type of score in long-term care it is typically a good sign for patient care and indicates that the place is well-staffed with nurses and aids. In addition to providing very favorable levels of nursing care, this nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccine to 98.35165 percent of its patients. This figure is also much higher than the average nursing home. This combination proved to be effective as this nursing home keeps its residents out of the hospital. It had just 1.08 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a significantly better hospitalization rate than the average nursing home.
Short-term Care Quality
Building on its fine resume, this facility also was given a dominant short-term care score, with a score of A-. Short-term care scores are critical for patients needing rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally requires higher levels of highly-skilled nursing. Skilled nursing means a broad spectrum of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other types of therapy. This nursing home employs both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities employ these skilled professionals. Lastly, we assessed the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. This proved to be a real strength for this nursing home. We found that it outperformed the vast majority of facilities with 59.7 percent of its residents returning home. This is a far higher rate than most facilities.
Nurse Quality
In the last category we assessed, this nursing home received an impressive grade grade of B+ in our nursing category. With this score, the facility rounded out a very strong report card. Our nursing grade features many factors. The most heavily weighted one is the amount of time nurses spent with residents. This facility offers extremely high levels of nursing care, averaging 4.3 hours per resident each day. This is more nursing care than nearly any other facility provides. Finally, we also looked at nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We look at these metrics as good indicators of the caliber of nursing care offered, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
