Nurse Quality
In addition to a phenomenal overall grade, this facility also received A+ nursing grade. In determining a facility's nursing grade, we look at the amount of time nurses commit to patients as well as the skill levels of the nurses. With 4.1 hours of nursing care per resident per day, this nursing home surpassed the overwhelming majority of facilities. Finally, this place also excelled in the quality-based metrics we looked at. For example, it fared as well as any facility the nation when it comes to avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. We look at these datapoints as predictive measures of the quality of nursing care being provided.
Long-term Care Quality
We also gave this facility a grade of A+ for its long-term care grade. Nursing homes that do well in this category tend to provide residents with more supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. In addition to providing elite levels of nursing care, this nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its residents. This percentage is also much higher than the majority of nursing homes. Finally, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 1.35 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home had fewer hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes.
Facility Inspections
Tallying another strong category grade, this nursing home also excelled in inspections, where it earned an A. Few nursing homes performed better in this category. Perhaps the most important factor we look at in calculating our inspection scores is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places with higher scores in this area most likely dodged the more severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. While this facility had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that the government inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
In the final area, this nursing home also received an impressive short-term care rating, with an A-. This completed a very impressive report card. In determining our short-term care scores, we analyze the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The objective is to create a barometer for comparing the rehabilitation services of nursing homes. When we assessed this facility's nursing hours, we found it offered more care from registered nurses than most nursing homes. Finally, we looked at the percentage of residents that eventually returned home from this facility. We found that 0 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.
