Facility Inspections
While we were not high on this facility overall, we awarded it an A for our inspections rating. This score is significantly more impressive than the nursing home's overall score. Arguably the most significant factor we look at in determining our inspection scores is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's inspection reports. It is typically best to avoid places that have a long list of severe deficiencies. This nursing home received 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none were considered to be major deficiencies. This tells you that the government inspectors did not consider any of these deficiencies to pose an immediate risk to patient health or safety. A few minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
We also gave this facility a respectable score in the category of long-term care, where we gave it a grade of C. In the category of long-term care, we analyze the amount of services offered by a nursing home, as opposed to more sophisticated services. On top of considering the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients. This facility keeps its patients out of the hospital. It had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home's second lowest category is short-term care, where it earned just a D in that area. This is a relatively poor score. Our short-term care scores are believed to be more critical for those requiring rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation generally utilizes additional highly-skilled nursing. This includes not merely nursing services, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other types of therapy. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. Lastly, we looked at the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that just 4.9 percent of this facility's residents returned home.
Nurse Quality
The last area we assessed was nursing. This facility was given an abysmal grade of F in that category. The nursing score weighs several subcategories, however, the most important consideration is the number of nurse hours per patient per week. This facility averaged a meager 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This statistic is well below the national average. In addition to receiving below average marks for total nursing hours, this place was less impressive in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at in determining our nursing scores. We looked at the percent of residents experiencing pressure ulcers and found this place was at roughly 150 percent of the national average in this statistic. This is a bad sign when you consider that many pressure ulcers are believed to be preventable with better nursing care. Unfortunately, this statistic dragged down this facility's nursing score significantly.
