Facility Inspections
While we did not rate this nursing home favorably overall, we want to point out its relatively favorable government inspections in recent years. We gave it a B+ in this category, which was much better than its overall grade. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing these inspection ratings. One critical factor is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some of these end up being quite insignificant. While this place had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. A few minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home also was given a favorable long-term care grade. In fact, we gave them a grade of B in this category, which is one of our better. Nursing homes that do well in long-term care tend to be well-staffed and offer extensive hands on care to patients. In addition to looking at the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is very impressive. Pneumonia tragically can be a dangerous ailment for nursing home patients so we like it when a facility does not take any chances. Lastly, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Short-term Care Quality
Another unfortunate development was the F this nursing home received in the category of short-term care. In computing our short-term care ratings, we size up a nursing home's levels of skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other highly trained professionals. This grade is typically a meaningful measure of the nursing home's rehabilitation services. Not surprisingly, we found that this facility provides substantially less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. Lastly, we considered the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that just 4.2 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.
Nurse Quality
The final category we rated was nursing. Sadly, it received a lowly F in this category, which is an abysmal score. We weighed the skill-level of nurses employed by the nursing home, in addition to the number of hours the nurses spent with patients, in computing our score in this category. This place provided just 0.2 hours of nursing care per resident each day. This number is well below the national average. In addition to its below average nursing hour totals, this place also received suboptimal scores in many of the quality-based metrics we looked at in calculating our nursing scores. We found that more of this nursing home's residents experienced falls which led to major injury.
