Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

While this nursing home's overall grade was not bad, it really fared well in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A- for that category, which is one of our highest scores. Perhaps the most important factor we look at in determining our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Nursing homes with higher scores in this category most likely dodged the most severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. While this place had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. Remember that deficiency-free inspection reports are rare in the industry.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This facility's second most favorable category turned out to be its short-term care score, where it received a B-. Short-term care scores are based in part on a nursing home's quantity of skilled nursing services. This includes a vast scope of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, not to mention other variations of therapy. It does not look like this facility submitted registered nurse or physical therapist staffing data. Finally, we considered the number of patients that ultimately were able to return home from this facility. We found that 5.2 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was actually well below average.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

This facility's next best category was its nursing grade, where it received a grade of B-. Our nursing rating is based on the facility's level of nurse staffing. We consider both the levels of skill of the nurses as well as the number of hours spent with patients. This facility provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a relatively low total compared to most other facilities. Finally, despite not having the most impressive total nursing hours, this nursing home actually performed admirably in the area of preventing major falls. This is generally a good indicator that a nursing home has quality controls in place.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The last category we graded was long-term care. In that category, we gave this facility a grade of C. For long-term care residents, the primary goal is to maintain residents' quality of life and keep them safe. After we finished looking at the quantity of nursing care, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination record. We were optimistic to find that this nursing home vaccinated 93.91892 percent of its residents for pneumonia. This nursing home was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
