Nurse Quality
We also would like to emphasize that this facility excelled in our nursing grade. We awarded them an A+ in this category. Nursing ratings are based largely on nurse staffing levels. This nursing home provides 0.7 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality-based metrics and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility California in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as having a system of moving a patient more frequently.
Long-term Care Quality
To add to its strong assessments in other areas, we gave this nursing home a score of A for its long-term care score. Facilities that do well in long-term care typically are well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to residents. Once we finished looking at the volume of care provided by nurses, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination statistics. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia sadly can be a dangerous illness for nursing home residents so we strongly prefer when a nursing home does not roll the dice on this issue. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Short-term Care Quality
The third category we assessed was short-term care. Adding to its impressive profile, this nursing home also excelled in that area. In fact, we awarded it a grade of of A in that category. In the area of short-term care, we strive to evaluate indicators of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. We look at the facility's skilled nursing services, including the ones performed by registered nurses and physical, occupational and other therapists. Fortunately, it looks like this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not every facility employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, based on the information they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The last item we looked at in this category is the percentage of patients that eventually returned home from the nursing home. We found that 0 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.
Facility Inspections
Lastly, this nursing home also received a nearly flawless government inspection. As a result, it earned one of our highest grades in that category with an A. With this impressive grade, this place is one of the few nursing homes in California to earn straight A's. Inspection ratings are based on data points found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that score well in this area tend to have very few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. Fortunately, although this facility had a few minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means that CMS didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
