We also wanted to note that this facility excelled in our nursing category. We awarded them an A+ in this category. The nursing score includes a variety of datapoints. The most important variable is the number of hours nurses spend with patients. This place provided 4.6 hours of nursing care per patient each day, which is among the more impressive totals in the country. A significant percentage of those hours were provided by registered nurses, which are one of the more skilled levels of nurses. We were very impressed by both of these statistics. On top of providing high levels of care, this facility also excelled in the quality measures we assessed. It performed as well as any nursing home in Minnesota when it comes to avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.

Adding to its high-end assessments in other areas, we awarded this facility a score of A for its short-term care grade. Our short-term care grades are believed to be more important for residents requiring a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally mandates higher levels of highly-skilled nursing. This means not just nursing, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. One reason for this facility's strong score in this category is that it provides more care with registered nurses to its residents than the average nursing home. Lastly, we considered the number of residents who were able to return home from this facility. This place outperformed most facilities with 50.6 percent of its patients returning home. This is a better rate than most facilities.

Another impressive feature of this facility is its inspection grade. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of A-. Our inspection ratings are based on pieces of information found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes that receive favorable grades in this area tend to have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. Fortunately, although this facility had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means that the government inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. We should note that deficiency-free inspections are rare in the industry.

In the last category we rated, this nursing home received an impressive grade grade of A- in our long-term care category. With this grade, the nursing home wrapped up a straight A report card. Nursing homes that receive this type of score in this category tend to provide consistent 24/7 care to make sure residents are kept in good health. After considering the very impressive nursing hours and other staffing provided by this facility, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is far higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.78 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
