Registered Staff Hours
Short-term Care Quality
One of the reasons this proved to be a quality facility is it received a very impressive short-term care rating. Short-term care turned out to be its best category. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of A. Short-term care grades are important for prospective residents seeking rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically mandates additional skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes a wide range of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this facility employs registered nurses. Not every facility employs these types of nurses. However, based on the data this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final metric we looked at in this category is the number of patients that eventually returned home from the nursing home. We found that 6.3 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.
Nurse Quality
One of the other reasons we graded this facility so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing rating. In that category, we awarded this nursing home an B+. Our nursing rating is based on the nursing home's nurse staffing levels. We weigh both the levels of training of the nurses as well as the number of hours spent with patients. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This place performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can frequently be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Facility Inspections
This facility also performed at a high level in the category of inspections. It received a nearly flawless inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our best grades in that category with a grade of B+. Perhaps the most significant factor we look at in determining our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes with better scores in this category typically avoided the most severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. This facility was hit with 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe deficiencies. This indicates that the government inspectors didn't consider any of these deficiencies to create an imminent risk to resident health or safety. The fact that the deficiencies were relatively minor made us feel better about this inspection report.
Long-term Care Quality
The final category we scored was long-term care, where this facility received a grade of C. Even though this proved to be its weakest category grade, this is nevertheless not a poor grade. In our long-term care score, we assess the sheer volume of care provided by a nursing home, as well as a few quality statistics. On top of assessing the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 91.75947 percent of its residents. This is a few points lower than we were hoping for but still a reasonably acceptable figure. Nevertheless, this nursing home was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
