Facility Inspections

Grade: A

One of the reasons this turned out to be a quality nursing home is it received a very impressive inspection grade. In fact, inspections turned out to be its best category. In this category, we gave this facility a grade of A. Inspection grades weigh several factors included in a nursing home's inspection report. One key criteria we weigh heavily is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Places with better grades in this category usually have few severe deficiencies. Although this place had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were serious based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

This facility is also strong in the area of nursing, where it received a grade of B+. It outperformed most nursing homes in this category. Our nursing grade is primarily tied to a nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This nursing home averages 0 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This place performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can frequently be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

This facility is also above average in the category of short-term care, where it received a score of B+. It outpaced most facilities in this area. In forming our short-term care ratings, we look at the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The goal is to devise a barometer for sizing up the rehabilitation services of various nursing homes. We weren't able to find information about this nursing home's registered nurse or physical therapy staffing. The last item we assessed in this category is the percentage of residents who ultimately returned home from the nursing home. We found that 0 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

In the final category we scored, this facility was awarded an impressive grade grade of B+ in our long-term care category. With this grade, the nursing home wrapped up a very favorable profile. For prospective patients in need of a permanent place to live as opposed to rehabilitation, long-term care grades are an important measure. In addition to looking at the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. We were not able to locate this facility's vaccination rates. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
