Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

This place really performed well in the area of long-term care. We awarded it an impressive grade of A for that area. This helped its overall profile. For patients looking for a permanent residence as opposed to skilled nursing, long-term care is a very important category. On top of considering the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 85.58559 percent of its patients, which is a few points lower than we expected. While its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we had hoped, we were pleased to find nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A

Inspections is another area where this nursing home excelled. We awarded this facility a grade of A for our inspections category. Arguably the most significant factor we look at in determining our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places with better scores in this category typically avoided the most severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

The next highest grade we gave this nursing home in any area came in the category of nursing, where we gave it a grade of C. Our nursing category assesses a handful of components, most of which are associated with nursing hours. This nursing home averages 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis, which is well below average. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this place actually fared better in some of the quality measures we looked at. It performed well when it comes to minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care. In many cases, the quality of nursing care is just as important as the quantity of hours of care provided.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The final category we looked at was short-term care. We gave it a lowly F in this category, which is an abysmal grade. This is clearly a significant concern. Our short-term care ratings are based on a nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This means a wide scope of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, in addition to other variations of therapy. In this facility's case, we found that it provided less registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than the typical facility. Finally, we looked at the percentage of residents that who were able to eventually return home from this nursing home. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 2.3 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.
