Facility Inspections

Grade: A

One of the reasons this turned out to be a great nursing home is that it received an impressive inspection grade. In fact, inspections turned out to be its best category. In this category, we awarded this facility a grade of A. Arguably the most important factor we consider in computing our inspection scores is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes with better grades in this area typically dodged the most severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. This facility received 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered to be severe. This means that the inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies to create an imminent threat to resident health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

To complement its impressive achievements in other areas, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A- for its long-term care score. For patients in need of a permanent residence as opposed to skilled nursing, long-term care grades are very important. Once we looked at the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination data. This nursing home vaccinated 92.207794 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which happens to be a bit lower than we expected but still a respectable percentage. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

We also want to note the fact that this facility was given a first-rate score of A- in our short-term care area. Our short-term care grades are arguably more meaningful for patients needing rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation typically requires higher levels of highly-skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes not just nursing, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other types of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this facility employs registered nurses. Not every nursing home employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the information they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Lastly, we assessed the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 0 percent of this facility's patients returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

The next category we rated was nursing. In this category, we gave this nursing home an above average grade of B. There are numerous factors within this area. Many of these criteria relate to staffing levels. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This nursing home performed very well in terms of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.
