Facility Inspections

Grade: A

One of the reasons this turned out to be a great nursing home is that it received an impressive inspection grade. In fact, inspections turned out to be its best category. In this category, we awarded this facility a grade of A. Arguably the most important factor we consider in computing our inspection scores is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes with better grades in this area typically dodged the most severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. This facility received 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered to be severe. This means that the inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies to create an imminent threat to resident health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

To complement its impressive achievements in other areas, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A- for its long-term care score. When facilities receive this kind of score in long-term care it is a good sign for resident care and indicates that the place is well-staffed with nurses and aids. Once we looked at the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination record. This nursing home vaccinated 95.2381 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is better than most nursing homes. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

Turning to another strength for this facility, we gave them one of our stronger scores in our short-term care category as well, with a grade of B+. In calculating these short-term care ratings, we look at the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. Our goal is to formulate a barometer for comparing the rehabilitation services of various nursing homes. Unfortunately, we weren't able to track down registered nurse or physical therapy staffing data for this facility. The final item we assessed in this area is the number of residents that were able to return home from the nursing home. We found that 0 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

The last area we rated was nursing. In this area, we awarded this facility a strong grade of B. When computing a facility's nursing rating, we weigh the number of hours nurses are with residents as well as the levels of training of those nurses. This nursing home provides 0 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This facility performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can generally be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.
