We want to point out that this facility really outperformed its overall grade in the category of inspections. In fact, it received a nearly flawless inspection report this year. As a result, we gave it one of our best scores in that category with an A-. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in calculating our inspection ratings. One critical factor is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some of these end up being relatively insignificant. While this facility had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. A few minor deficiencies shouldn't stop you from considering a nursing home.

This nursing home's next most favorable area was short-term care. We awarded it a B- in this area. This is basically a middle of the pack grade in this area. In the category of short-term care, we endeavor to assess indicators of a nursing home's rehabilitation. We assess the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and physical, occupational and other therapists. Unfortunately, this place was below average in terms of its level of registered nurse and physical therapy hours provided to its patients based on the measures we assessed. The last statistic we looked at in this category is the percentage of patients that eventually returned home from the nursing home. We found that just 4.3 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home. Unfortunately, this was below average.

The next highest grade we gave this nursing home in any area came in the category of nursing, where we gave it a grade of C. There are many subcategories within this grade. Many of these datapoints are tied to levels of nurse staffing. This nursing home averages just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low figure. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this facility actually fared better in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at. It scored well in the area of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.

The next category we scored was long-term care. We gave it an abysmal F in this area, which is a very poor score. This is clearly a significant disappointment. If you are looking for anything other than short-term rehabilitation, you should take a close look at each nursing home's long-term care ratings. On top of assessing the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. Fortunately, this facility vaccinated 94.77124 percent of its patients, which is a very solid total. To our surprise, this place was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Unfortunately, some of its other scores in this category weren't as favorable as these.
