The hope is always that this does not adversely affect the quality of care. Lastly, we assessed the number of patients who ultimately were able to return home from this nursing home. We found that 0 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was well below average.

This is a somewhat alarming figure which is well below the national average. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this facility surprisingly fared better in some of the quality measures we assessed. It scored well in terms of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. Many consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care. In many cases, the quality of nursing care is just as important as the number of hours of care provided.

This nursing home's worst category was long-term care, which is the last area we looked at. In this category, we gave this facility a D. In a long-term care setting, the primary objective is to keep patients healthy and safe. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. One of the factors we considered on top of nurse's aid hours was vaccinations. Thankfully, this nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its patients. To our surprise, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility had fewer hospitalizations than many nursing homes. Unfortunately, a few of its other scores in the category weren't as favorable as these.
