Facility Inspections
This facility received a strong overall score as described above, but we especially would like to emphasize its nearly flawless government inspections in recent years. We awarded them an A in this category. Our inspection grades account for a host of factors included in a facility's inspection reports. One key criteria we rely on is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Places with higher scores in this category generally have very few of these severe deficiencies. This place received 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe. This means that the inspectors didn't consider any of these deficiencies to create an imminent risk to resident safety or health. We should point out that deficiency-free inspection reports are rare in the industry.
Short-term Care Quality
This facility fared well in our short-term care category. In fact, we gave it a score of A for that category, which turns out to be one of our higher grades. Short-term care ratings are based on a nursing home's quantity of skilled highly skilled professionals. This includes a broad spectrum of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. One of this place's strengths is physical therapy hours. We found that it offers at least one and a half times as many hours of physical therapy as most nursing homes. The last measure we assessed in this area is the number of residents who returned home from the nursing home. We found that it performed as well as just about any nursing home in Michigan in this area with 72.7 percent of its patients returning home.
Nurse Quality
This facility's next best category grade came in the area of nursing. In that category, we gave this nursing home a grade of C. This wasn't quite on par with some of its other category grades mentioned above. The nursing grade weighs many subcategories, but the main consideration is the level of nurse hours per patient per week. With 4.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day, this nursing home surpassed the vast majority of facilities. Finally, our nursing scores also factor in quality measures, such as avoiding major falls. This place performed better than average in this metric. This is often a reliable indicator of how carefully a nursing home's nursing staff is tending to its patients. Major falls can typically be prevented if more nurses and better safety protocols are in place.
Long-term Care Quality
The final area we scored is long-term care, proved to be this facility's worst area. We awarded this facility a grade of D in this area. This really was one of the couple of dings in a very solid profile. For prospective residents in need of a permanent place to live rather than rehabilitation, long-term care is an important category. Based on its grade in this category, we were pleasantly surprised to discover that this nursing home performed relatively well in both nursing hours and its vaccination records. In fact, this nursing home gave the pneumonia vaccine to 94.82758 percent of its patients. This figure is actually better than the average nursing home. Surprisingly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility has fewer hospitalizations than many nursing homes. Sadly, a few of its other scores in this category weren't as favorable as these.
