One of the many reasons this turned out to be a great nursing home is that it received an A+ short-term care grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this category. Short-term care ratings are based on the facility's quantity of highly-skilled highly skilled professionals. This includes a vast range of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, not to mention other types of therapy. This nursing home provides more services with physical therapists and registered nurses than most nursing homes we looked at. This is usually a favorable sign. The last metric we looked at in this area is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We found that it fared as well as just about any nursing home in Oregon in this area with 74.1 percent of its patients returning home.

Adding to this nursing home's impressive resume, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A for our inspections rating. Inspection ratings weigh several factors, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these issues by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Fortunately, although this nursing home had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G through L. This tells you that CMS didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Remember that deficiency-free inspection reports are rare in the industry.

This facility also excelled in the area of nursing, where it received a grade of A. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. Our nursing rating analyzes several factors, most of which are based on levels of nurse staffing. This facility provided 4.6 hours of nursing care per patient each day, which is among the highest figures in the country. A significant percentage of those hours were provided by registered nurses, which are one of the most skilled levels of nurses. We are very impressed by these figures. On top of offering high levels of care, this facility also performed well in several of the quality measures we looked at. In terms of the percentage of its residents suffering falls leading to major injury, this place performed as well as any facility the nation.

The final area we rated is nursing, proved to be this nursing home's weakest category. We awarded this facility a grade of D in this category. This really was one of just a couple of weak links of a very solid profile. Our long-term care grade assesses a facility's assistance with daily living rather than the skilled therapy and medical services that are critical to a skilled nursing facility. Based on its grade in this category, it is surprising to find that this nursing home performed relatively well in both nursing hours and its vaccination records. In fact, this nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccine to 97.11539 percent of its patients. This figure is actually higher than the majority of nursing homes. To our surprise, this nursing home was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had just 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Unfortunately, a few of its other scores in this category were not as favorable as these.
