Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

This facility received a quality overall score as described above, but we especially want to emphasize its nearly flawless government inspections in recent years. We gave it an A+ in this area. Arguably the most critical factor we consider in computing our inspection grades is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Places with higher grades in this area most likely avoided the more severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Even some of the best nursing homes receive an occasional ding on their inspection report.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

This facility really excelled in the area of long-term care, where we gave it a score of A-. Not many nursing homes performed better in this category. When facilities receive this type of grade in this category it is a good sign for patient care and suggests that the facility is well-staffed with nurses and aids. In addition to assessing the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 96.51376 percent of its residents, which is what we like to see. Pneumonia tragically can be a life threatening condition for nursing home patients so we like it when a facility does not leave its residents vulnerable. Lastly, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

The third most favorable area we gave this nursing home in any area came in the category of short-term care, where we gave it a grade of B-. Short-term care grades are typically used to score a facility's performance with rehabilitation To provide quality rehabilitation services, facilities generally must feature higher levels of highly skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other highly skilled individuals. Unfortunately, we weren't able to locate information on registered nurse or physical therapy staffing for this nursing home. Finally, we assessed the percentage of patients that were able to return home from this facility. We found that 5.2 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was well below the national average.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

Moving on to the next area, we awarded this nursing home a grade of D for our nursing category. This was the nursing home's weakest category score. Naturally, this score pulled down the nursing home's overall profile a bit. Our nursing rating is based on the nursing home's nurse staffing levels. We factor in both the levels of training of the nurses as well as the amount of time spent with residents. This facility provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. Unfortunately, this nursing home also did not fare as well as we had hoped in some of the quality measures we looked at in this category.
