Facility Inspections

Grade: A

This facility received a quality overall grade as described above, but we especially want to emphasize its excellent health inspections in recent years. We gave them an A in this category. Inspection grades account for several factors included in a nursing home's inspection report. One key criteria we rely on is the number and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with higher scores in this area generally have very few severe deficiencies. Although this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its report, none were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

Among this facility's other accomplishments is its high-end long-term care score. We awarded them one of our most impressive scores in that category, with a grade of A. Nursing homes that do well in this category typically provide residents with better supervision and stay on top of routine medical care. Once we looked at the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination records. This nursing home vaccinated 99.1018 percent of its residents for pneumonia. Vaccines are vital to keeping patients healthy. Finally, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

Adding to its profile, this facility also earned a grade of B for its nursing rating. This is a well above average score in this category. Nursing scores are based largely on quality and quantity of nursing care. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality measures and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any place the country in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can frequently be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as employing a protocol of moving patients more often.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

The final area we scored is short-term care, in which this nursing home was given a grade of B-. Even though this ended up being its worst category score, this is still not a bad grade. In determining these short-term care scores, we assess the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The goal is to create a tool for sizing up the rehabilitation services of nursing homes. We were not able to find information about this nursing home's registered nurse or physical therapy staffing. The final measure we assessed in this category is the number of residents who ultimately were able to return home from the facility. We found that just 0 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.
