Facility Inspections
While this nursing home's overall score was not a highlight, it actually excelled in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it an A for that category, which is one of our best scores. Inspection grades account for several factors included in a facility's inspection report. One key criteria we consider is the number and severity of deficiencies. You generally want to avoid nursing homes with a list of severe deficiencies flagged. Fortunately, although this place had some minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means that the government inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A couple minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.
Short-term Care Quality
One of this nursing home's better category scores was in the area of short-term care. This wound up being its second most respectable category. In that area, we gave this facility a C. In our short-term care grade, we endeavor to create a sound gauge for rehabilitation. In this process, we assess a nursing home's level of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. In this place's case, we were surprised to learn that it actually provides less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. The last datapoint we looked at in this category is the number of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. This place fared well in this area with 66.1 percent of its residents returning home.
Nurse Quality
This facility ended up receiving rock bottom score in our nursing category. It received an F in this category. Nursing scores are mostly associated with a nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 3.1 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. To go along with its low totals in the area of nursing hours per patient, this facility also did not perform as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in computing our nursing ratings. We looked at the percentage of patients experiencing pressure ulcers and major falls. This nursing home had more falls and pressure ulcers than the average nursing home.
Long-term Care Quality
Turning to the last area, this nursing home did not perform very well here either. Due to a rock bottom grade of F in long-term care, this is just about as as uninspiring as it gets. Facilities that do not fare well in this category typically aren't as well-staffed and are lagging in a few of the areas of routine medical care we assessed. In addition to assessing the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 93.56223 percent of its patients. This is somewhat lower than we anticipated but still a respectable figure. To our surprise, this place was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home had fewer hospitalizations than most nursing homes. This was its best feature in this category.
