In addition to receiving a strong overall grade, this nursing home fared even better in the area of inspections which is based on the facility's recent inspections. We gave it an A for this category, which is one of our highest grades. Inspection ratings are based on pieces of information located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that receive favorable grades in this area tend to have very few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these facilities generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. Although this facility had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. Remember that deficiency-free inspection reports are uncommon in this industry.

Among the reasons we graded this nursing home so highly is that it received a favorable short-term care grade. Indeed, short-term care ended up being its second most impressive category grade. In that area, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A-. In computing these short-term care ratings, we assess the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The objective is to devise a measure for sizing up the rehabilitation services of different facilities. When we assessed this facility's nursing hours, we found it offered more care from registered nurses than most nursing homes. Finally, we looked at the number of residents who were able to return home from this nursing home. It performed better than most nursing homes in the country with 53.9 percent of its residents returning home.

This nursing home also received a strong nursing score. In fact, we awarded it an above average grade of B+ in this area. When calculating a facility's nursing score, we weigh the quantity of hours nurses commit to patients and the skill levels of those nurses. This facility provided 3.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at certain nursing quality measures in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. The last category we graded is long-term care, where this facility received a grade of C. This actually is this nursing home's weakest area. This is still not a terrible score. Long-term care scores are based in part on a nursing home's volume of care. This includes a broad scope of personal care services, ranging from help with activities of daily living to routine healthcare services. In addition to looking at the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 94.90909 percent of its patients, which is higher than the average nursing home. Lastly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 1.66 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home has less hospitalizations than many nursing homes.
