Facility Inspections
The main reason this facility received a decent overall grade is its impeccable inspections in recent years. We gave it one of our higher grades in that category, with an A-. This is a notably better grade than the place's overall score, which was decent but certainly not elite. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing these inspection scores. One of those factors is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these are quite insignificant. While this place had a few deficiencies on its report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. A couple of minor deficiencies shouldn't lead you to cross a nursing home off your list.
Short-term Care Quality
This facility also received a positive short-term care grade. Indeed, we awarded them a B in this area, which is one of our better. Our short-term care ratings are based in part on a facility's quantity of skilled nursing services. This means a broad range of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. This nursing home employs both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities employ these skilled professionals. Finally, we looked at the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. It outperformed the majority of nursing homes with 52 percent of its patients returning home. This is a higher rate than most facilities.
Nurse Quality
We also gave this nursing home a decent score in the category of nursing care, with a grade of B-. Our nursing score weighs several datapoints, many of which are tied to levels of nurse staffing. Based on the CMS data, this nursing home offers 3.8 hours of nursing care per resident per day. While this place excelled in terms of quantity of nursing hours, it fell short in certain statistics that focused on quality. This nursing home's nursing rating was pulled down by poor performance in the area of minimizing pressure ulcers. In fact, we found that 15 percent of this facility's patients experienced pressure ulcers.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility's weakest area was long-term care, which is the final area we scored. Unfortunately, we gave it a lowly F in this area. Even with a few decent grades in other areas, this score is nevertheless disappointing so we felt obligated to make sure you are aware. When facilities receive a grade in this range in long-term care it typically means the facility did not perform well in our measures relating to patient care. One of the statistics we considered after nursing hours is vaccines. Frankly, we were a bit concerned this nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccination to a relatively low 82.28228 percent of its patients. Surprisingly, this place was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With only 1.57 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home had fewer hospitalizations than the average nursing home. This was its best feature in this category.
