Facility Inspections
On top of being a quality facility overall, this place really excelled in the area of inspections, where it earned an A-. Not many facilities performed better in this category. These inspection grades weigh several factors, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these factors by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
Among this facility's other strengths is its first-rate short-term care score. It received one of our more favorable grades in that category, with a score of A-. In the area of short-term care, we try to qualify measures of a nursing home's rehabilitation. We assess the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as the ones performed by registered nurses and physical therapists. One reason for this facility's strong score in this category is that it provides more care with registered nurses to its residents than the average nursing home. Finally, we assessed the number of patients who returned home from this facility. This place outperformed the overwhelming majority of facilities in the country with 62.7 percent of its residents returning home.
Long-term Care Quality
Turning to another strength for this nursing home, we gave them one of our higher scores in our long-term care category as well, with a grade of B+. When nursing homes receive a grade in this range in long-term care it typically means it's well-staffed and is a quality place to reside on a permanent basis. After we finished looking at the volume of care provided by nurses, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination records. This nursing home vaccinated 96.97802 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is what we like to see. Pneumonia is too frequently a dangerous illness for nursing home patients so we like it when a facility doesn't take any chances. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
Nurse Quality
The final category we looked at was nursing. This facility received a favorable nursing rating in our assessment, with a grade of B-. Although this was not as good as many of its other grades, this remains an acceptable score for that category. Our nursing rating consists of a handful of factors, many of which are tied to nursing hours. This nursing home provides an impressive 3.9 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also weighed some quality-based metrics. This nursing home performed well in some of the quality-based metrics we assessed. For example, in terms of the number of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, this place beat the national average. This is typically an indicator that a facility has quality controls in place. Pressure ulcers can frequently be prevented with better nursing care.
