Facility Inspections
To go along with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for our inspections rating. These inspection ratings take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these issues by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this nursing home had a few minor dings on its inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means the government inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
An additional quality feature for this nursing home is that it was awarded a favorable long-term care grade. In fact, this proved to be its second best category score. In this area, we gave this nursing home a grade of B+. When nursing homes receive a grade in this range in long-term care it typically means it has plenty of staff and is an overall good place to reside on a permanent basis. On top of looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 99.3994 percent of its residents. Vaccines are critical to keeping patients healthy. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 1.67 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility has less hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes.
Short-term Care Quality
The next most favorable category we awarded this nursing home in any category came in the area of short-term care, where we gave it a B-. In computing our short-term care grades, we look at the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. Our objective is to create a barometer for comparing the rehabilitation services of various facilities. Fortunately, this nursing home offers both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities offer both. Lastly, we considered the number of residents who ultimately were able to return home from this facility. This place performed respectably in this area with 48.5 percent of its patients returning home.
Nurse Quality
The next category we analyzed is nursing, which proved to be this facility's weakest area. We awarded this nursing home a grade of D in this area. Unfortunately, this score pulled down the facility's overall grade to a certain degree. Our nursing rating weighs several data points, however, the most important one is the quantity of nurse hours spent with patients. This nursing home provided just 3.3 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This is not a very impressive figure. Although this facility didn't excel in the area of nursing hours, it surprised us in a few of the quality-based assessments in the nursing category, such as avoiding major falls. This nursing home performed above average in this datapoint, which is one redeeming quality we found in this category.
