One of the reasons this turned out to be a decent facility is that it received a very favorable inspection grade. In this area, we gave this nursing home a grade of B+. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in calculating these inspection ratings. One critical factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some of these can be quite minor. Fortunately, although this facility had some minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means CMS did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies shouldn't lead you to cross a nursing home off your list.

Additionally, we also wanted to point out that this facility was given impressive short-term care marks in this assessment. We awarded them one of our more favorable grades in this category, with a grade of B. This proved to be the facility's second best grade. In the area of short-term care, we strive to assess indicators of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. We look at the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses and physical and occupational therapists. This nursing home employs both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities employ these skilled professionals. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that it outperformed the majority of facilities in this area with 54.8 percent of its residents returning home. This is a higher rate than most nursing homes.

We also gave this nursing home a decent score in the category of nursing care, with a grade of B-. Our nursing score is primarily based on the facility's level of nurse staffing. This nursing home provided just 3.1 hours of nursing care per resident daily. This figure is far below average. Lastly, despite not having the most impressive total nursing hours, this facility actually performed admirably in the metric of preventing major falls. This is generally a good indicator that a place has quality controls in place.

This nursing home's worst area is long-term care, which is the last category we scored. In this category, we awarded this nursing home a grade of D. Nursing homes that receive this type of grade in long-term care likely don't provide the type of consistent around the clock care that some other nursing homes provide. One of the factors we considered after nursing hours was vaccinations. We were a bit alarmed this facility administered the pneumonia vaccine to just 85.89109 percent of its residents. We were also disappointed with its hospitalization rate. Here we found that this place had 2.95 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is nearly double the national average.
