Nurse Quality
We also wanted to emphasize the fact that this facility excelled in our nursing rating. We awarded them an impressive grade of A+ in this category. The nursing category weighs a handful of factors, most of which are based on nursing hours. This facility provided 4.9 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This was one of the highest figures we found. In addition, we found that a significant portion of this care was provided by registered nurses, which are highly skilled nurses. These are both really impressive figures. In addition to offering impressive levels of care, this place also excelled in the quality-based metrics we looked at. For example, it performed as well as any nursing home in the state when it comes to minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We look at these metrics as reliable indicators of the caliber of nursing care being provided.
Short-term Care Quality
Contributing to its dominant profile, this facility also excelled in our short-term care category. In fact, it received a score of A in that area. Short-term care ratings are meaningful for individuals looking for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally mandates higher levels of highly-skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes a vast range of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. This facility excelled in the two key staffing areas we looked at. It supplied more care from registered nurses and physical therapists than the average nursing home. The last measure we looked at in this area is the number of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We found that it fared as well as just about any nursing home in Illinois in this area with 58 percent of its residents returning home.
Facility Inspections
This nursing home has earned near flawless inspections in recent years. We awarded them an A in this area. Our inspection scores account for a host of factors found on a nursing home's inspection report. One key criteria we weigh heavily is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with higher grades in this category tend to have very few of these severe deficiencies. This facility received 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none were considered to be major deficiencies. This tells you that the inspectors didn't deem any of these deficiencies to pose an imminent threat to resident safety or health. A couple relatively minor deficiencies aren't necessarily something to panic about.
Long-term Care Quality
The next area we graded was long-term care. We awarded this facility one of our better scores in this category, with a grade of B. Even though this is not on par with many of this facility's other grades, it is nevertheless a fine score. Long-term care ratings in this range generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine medical care. On top of considering the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 94.93671 percent of its patients, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia can be a life or death health condition for nursing home patients so we like it when a nursing home does not take any chances. Lastly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
