Facility Inspections
Although this facility's overall score was not a highlight, it actually received a very good score in the category of inspections. In fact, we gave it a B+ for that area, which is one of our better grades. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing our inspection ratings. One key factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some of these can be quite insignificant. While this place had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. A few minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.
Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home also was awarded a favorable score in our short-term care category. We gave this nursing home an above average grade of B in that area. In the area of short-term care, we seek to evaluate indicators of a nursing home's rehabilitation. We look at the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and physical, occupational and other therapists. One of this nursing home's strength is that it offers more hours of physical therapy per week to its residents. Finally, we looked at the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that it outperformed the vast majority of nursing homes with 58.8 percent of its patients returning home.
Long-term Care Quality
The next category we graded is long-term care. In that area, we awarded this facility a C. Long-term care grades are based on a nursing home's volume of nursing services. This means a vast scope of personal care services, ranging from assistance with activities of daily living to routine medical services. After considering the quantity of care provided by nurses, we next considered the facility's vaccination statistics. We were optimistic to find that this facility vaccinated 99.60317 percent of its residents for pneumonia. This facility was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
Nurse Quality
The last area we graded was nursing, ended up being this nursing home's weakest category. We gave this nursing home a grade of D in this area. Our nursing score is based on the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. We weigh both the levels of training of the nurses and the number of hours spent with residents. This place offered just 3.3 hours of nursing care per patient each day. This is an alarmingly low total. Lastly, we also looked at some quality measures in determining our nursing scores. This nursing home was above average in two of the major data points we considered, with good marks for minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. These data points are typically good indicators of the quality of nursing care available.
