Facility Inspections
Although we didn't rate this facility favorably overall, we did give it an excellent grade in the category of inspections, where it earned a grade of A+. Perhaps the most important factor we consider in computing our inspection scores is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a facility's inspection reports. It is generally in your best interest to avoid facilities that had too many deficiencies. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. In spite of this deficiency, this nursing home still received a relatively favorable report.
Long-term Care Quality
One of this nursing home's more favorable category scores was in the category of long-term care. This turned out to be its second best category. In that area, we awarded this facility a B-. Our long-term care ratings are more important for patients requiring more conventional assistance related to personal care. After looking at the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This facility vaccinated 99.73753 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is more than the vast majority of nursing homes. This nursing home also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Short-term Care Quality
Sadly, we gave this facility an F for its short-term care grade. In the category of short-term care, we try to evaluate indicators of a facility's rehabilitation. We look at the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as the ones performed by registered nurses and physical, occupational and other therapists. Considering its grade in this category, we weren't surprised to discover that this nursing home is well below average in terms of the quantity of registered nurse and physical therapy hours provided to its patients based on the data we looked at. Finally, we assessed the number of patients who who were able to eventually return home from this facility. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 4.3 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was well off the national average.
Nurse Quality
The last area we scored was nursing, where this nursing home received a very poor score in this area as well. Unfortunately, we gave it a lowly F for this category, which is definitely very concerning. In determining our nursing grades, we weigh both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the levels of licensure of those nurses. This nursing home averaged only 0.2 hours of nursing care per resident each day. This is an alarmingly low total. On top of rating below average in nursing hours per resident, this facility also had poor scores in the quality-based metrics we looked at in computing our nursing ratings. We looked at the percent of patients experiencing major falls and pressure ulcers. This facility was at about 1.5 times the national average in both of these data points. This is a bad sign when you consider that many bed sores and falls are believed to be preventable with better nursing care. These statistics helped pull down this nursing home's nursing grade significantly.
