Facility Inspections
In addition to being a respectable nursing home overall, this place also excelled in the category of inspections, where it earned an A-. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. Inspection grades are based on items located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes that score well in this category have few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these facilities should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. This particular nursing home received 5 deficiencies on its inspection report. Overall, this is still a solid inspection report, but we'd always recommend looking into any deficiencies you find troubling.
Short-term Care Quality
We also awarded this nursing home a strong score in short-term care. This facility received a B in this area, which happens to be one of our better grades. Our short-term care ratings are important for prospective residents requiring rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually requires additional highly-skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes a broad scope of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. One of this nursing home's strengths is physical therapy hours. We found that it offers at least 50% more hours with physical therapists to its residents than most other facilities. Finally, we looked at the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that it outperformed the vast majority of nursing homes in this area with 68.9 percent of its patients returning home. This is a significantly higher rate than most facilities.
Long-term Care Quality
We also awarded this facility a middle of the pack score in the area of long-term care, where it received a grade of C. For residents looking for a permanent residence rather than skilled nursing, long-term care grades are a key measure. On top of assessing the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. Frankly, we were a bit worried that this facility gave the vaccine to only 66.824646 percent of its patients. Unfortunately, this place's hospitalization rate was worse than we hoped. We found that this nursing home had 2.24 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. While this figure is somewhat concerning, this number can be skewed for some nursing homes due to the preexisting medical conditions of patients
Nurse Quality
Switching gears to our next area, this nursing home didn't fare well. With a very poor grade of F in nursing, this is this nursing home's poorest category. We scrutinized the skill-level of nurses working for the facility, in addition to the quantity of time the nurses spent with residents, in calculating our rating in this area. This facility offered only 3.1 hours of nursing care per resident daily. In addition to its subpar nursing hours, this nursing home received poor scores in some of the quality-based measures we looked at in determining our nursing grades. We found that more of this place's residents sustained falls leading to major injury.
