Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

While this nursing home's overall grade was not bad, it really excelled in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A+ for that category, which is one of our best scores. Our inspection scores weigh a host of factors included in a facility's inspection reports. One key criteria we consider is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with higher scores in this area typically have few of these severe deficiencies. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Even some of the best nursing homes receive an occasional ding on their inspection report.

Long-term Care Quality

This facility's long-term care score turns out to be one of its better scores. The nursing home was given a B- in this category. Our long-term care grade focuses on a nursing home's personal care rather than the highly skilled nursing and medical services that are critical to a rehabilitation facility. One of the factors we considered on top of nurse's aid hours was vaccinations. Candidly, we were a bit bothered by the fact that this facility provided the pneumonia vaccine to a relatively low 67.32284 percent of its residents. Nevertheless, this nursing home excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The next highest area we gave this facility in any area came in the category of short-term care, where we gave it a grade of C. In calculating our short-term care scores, we quantify the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our purpose is to formulate a barometer for comparing the rehabilitation services of different facilities. Unfortunately, it does not appear that this nursing home submitted registered nurse or physical therapist staffing data. The final item we assessed in this area is the percentage of residents who were able to return home from the facility. We found that just 5.4 percent of this facility's patients returned home. This figure was below average.
