Facility Inspections

Grade: B-minus

Although we gave this facility a terrible overall grade, we awarded it a B- for our inspections rating. In fact, the facility received very impressive inspection report this year. We would argue that one of the most important factors in evaluating an inspection report is deficiencies. In this regard, we especially look at the severity of those deficiencies. This facility was hit with 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none of the deficiencies were considered to be major deficiencies. This indicates that the government inspectors didn't consider any of these deficiencies to cause an imminent threat to resident safety or health. Finally, this facility was cited by CMS for possible abuse or neglect. We would not recommend this facility under any circumstance.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

We were also surprised to learn that this nursing home earned a somewhat respectable long-term care rating this year. We gave it a grade of B- in that area. If you are looking for services other than rehabilitation, you should take a close look at each nursing home's long-term care ratings. In addition to looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients, which is better than most nursing homes. This place keeps its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.03 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

Incredibly, we awarded this nursing home a C for our short-term care rating, which is not a bad grade. Our short-term care scores are thought to be more meaningful for folks requiring rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation generally utilizes additional highly-skilled nursing services. This includes not merely nursing, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. Unfortunately, we found that this place provided fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other facilities. The last metric we looked at in this category is the percentage of residents that ultimately returned home from the facility. We found that just 4.9 percent of this facility's patients returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: F

The final category we graded is nursing. We gave it an abysmal F in this category, which is a rock bottom score. Our nursing rating includes a number of factors. The most important variable is the number of hours nurses spent with residents. This nursing home offered a meager 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident daily. This is an alarmingly low total. To go along with its low totals in the area of nursing hours per patient, this place also did not fare as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in computing our nursing grades. We looked at the percentage of residents experiencing pressure ulcers and major falls. This facility had more pressure ulcers and falls than the average facility. This may be a bad sign when you consider that many bed sores and falls are believed to be preventable with better nursing care. These statistics pulled down this facility's nursing rating significantly.
