Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

One of the many reasons this turned out to be a great nursing home is that it received an A+ long-term care grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this category. Facilities that excel in long-term care tend to be well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to residents. In addition to assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is what we like to see. Pneumonia sadly can be a life threatening condition for nursing home patients so we prefer when a nursing home doesn't leave this to chance. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A

To complement its strong performance in other areas, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A- for our inspections rating. In determining our nursing ratings, we look at both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the levels of licensure of those nurses. This particular nursing home provided 0.6 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This facility performed very well when it comes to avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

This nursing home also earned excellent inspections in recent years. We gave it one of our best grades in that area, with an impressive grade of A-. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining these inspection ratings. One key factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of deficiencies is usually more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some end up being relatively insignificant. While this facility had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

Switching gears to our fourth category, this facility was awarded an acceptable short-term care grade. While this wasn't as good as some of its other grades, this is still not a major area of concern. Short-term care scores are important for individuals needing rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally mandates additional skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes a vast spectrum of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. Unfortunately, we weren't able to locate registered nurse or physical therapy staffing data for this nursing home. Lastly, we considered the number of residents who returned home from this facility. We found that 0 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was well below the national average.
