Registered Staff Hours
Nurse Quality
We also would like to point out that this nursing home earned an A for our nursing category. The nursing rating considers several factors. The most important factor is the number of hours nurses spent with patients. This nursing home averages 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality measures and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any place the nation in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as by having a protocol of moving patients even once per day.
Facility Inspections
Adding to this facility's impressive resume, we gave this facility a grade of A for inspections. Inspection grades weigh several factors, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these factors by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this facility had a few deficiencies on its report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality
The next area we looked at was long-term care. Adding to its elite resume, this facility also performed well in that category. In fact, we gave it a of A- for that area. If you are looking for anything other than rehabilitation, you should take a close look at long-term care grades. One of the datapoints we considered after nursing hours is vaccines. This facility administered the pneumonia vaccination to 89 percent of its residents. While its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we hoped for, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
Short-term Care Quality
The final category we assessed is this facility's worst category. Nevertheless, even its weakest link would actually be a highlight for most facilities. We gave it an above average grade of B for our short-term care category. With our short-term care category, we try to create a fair gauge for rehabilitation services. In doing so, we look at the facility's scope of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all nursing homes employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last item we looked at in this area is the number of residents who eventually returned home from the facility. We found that 4.1 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.
